Originally the inn was four cottages, one of which began to supply ale to farm workers served from the cask in jugs. Perhaps in appreciation of this early tradition we still attract more than our fair share of colourful country characters.
Naturally the name of the inn itself is also a reflection of the past, representing two of the most important farm implements of the last century and before; the horse drawn plough and the flail, used to separate the grain from the chaff.
Despite our history, we have really moved with the times here at The Plough & Flail, with a full refurbishment and extensive menus - a wide ranging, adventurous and mouthwatering selection of dishes guaranteed to please your palette.
